What is Sports Massage/Deep Tissue Massage?
Sports Massage (or Deep Tissue Massage) is typically used before or after sport and may help enhance performance, prevent injury and improve recovery time.
It may be particularly helpful for those suffering current or long term injuries, as it can help inflammation, pain and stiffness, and ease strained muscles.
Sports Massage is good for the prevention and rehabilitation of injuries such as:
•Tennis Elbow,
•Golfers Elbow
•Patellafemoral disfunction, (Runners Knee)
• Iliotibial Syndrome, (ITBS),
• Shin Splints,
•Rotator cuff injuries
•Hamstring injuries, and other football related injuries.
Pre and post event massage. If you'd like to incorporate regular sports massage into your pre event training please get in touch and we can work out a plan.
I'm not a sporty person, can sports massage help me?
Sports Massage may also be beneficial for those with physically demanding lifestyles or people with repetitive strain injuries such as
•Tennis Elbow, (you don't have to play tennis to suffer from this)
•Golfers Elbow;
•Muscular Skeletal Disorders of the workplace - such as Lumbosacral discomfort - problems caused by sitting for long periods; and Forward Head Syndrome (affects computer users)
•SacroIliac joint disfunction.
Sports Massage is also beneficial for rehabilitation from:
Chronic conditions that can be helped by Sports Massage/Deep Tissue Massage
What Does The Treatment Entail?
A medical history form will be completed at your first appointment to determine the treatment required, and you will be asked to sign a consent form.
This information will be kept confidential.
Sports Massage uses a wide range of manipulations, depending on your age, fitness and diagnosis.
Treatment is different for every patient but may include techniques such as different types of soft tissue massage, joint articulation, joint manipulation to release tension, stretch muscles, help relieve pain and mobilise your joints.
Alternatives to Sports Massage: Swedish Massage.
You may not require sports massage, if you do not have an injury or condition that requires treatment.
Swedish Massage is a gentler massage with long strokes of medium to firm pressure to provide gentle relaxation.
Good for general wellbeing, it is very calming, and can be incorporated into your self care programme.
Whichever treatment you require, please dress comfortably for your treatment, or bring something to change into- for example shorts might be appropriate, or sports bra.
Do not wear jewellery etc that might impede the massage.
You are welcome to bring your own blanket/sheet or a robe if you wish.
Please bring a bottle of water with you to hydrate after the treatment.
